What are Latitude and Longitude?

Geographic coordinates can seem complex, but they're just an address system for the entire planet. Our tool makes using them simple:

Latitude lines run horizontally, like rungs on a ladder. They measure how far north or south of the Equator (0°) you are. The North Pole is 90° N, and the South Pole is -90° S.
Longitude lines run vertically, from pole to pole, like slices of an orange. They measure how far east or west of the Prime Meridian in Greenwich, England (0°) you are, going up to 180° in each direction.
