About the Image Posterizer Tool

Transform your photos into bold, graphic art with this free online Image Posterizer. The posterization effect (also known as color quantization) dramatically reduces the number of colors in your image, mapping every pixel to the closest color in a limited, stylized palette. This is a powerful way to create a striking, illustrative look reminiscent of screen prints, retro video games, and pop art.

How to Use the Posterizer

Our tool gives you a full pipeline of effects to control the final look. Start by uploading an image. Then, use the sliders to pre-process the image before the palette is applied:

  • Brightness & Contrast: Adjust the base tones of your image to influence which colors from the palette will be used.
  • Smoothness: Apply a blur effect before posterization. Higher smoothness values will create larger, more abstract blocks of color.
  • Palette: Cycle through dozens of curated color palettes, from "Cyberpunk Glitch" to "Sun Bleached," to find the perfect aesthetic. Use the "Random Palette" button to discover new combinations.
  • Hue Tweak: Shift all the colors of the final, posterized image for fine-tuned adjustments.
